My work is made from recycled rc photo paper (darkroom photography produces a lot of waste) by cutting them into 1 cm by 1 cm tiles that are assembled together over a base image that's usually one of my photographs. Although I have created a couple mosaics that were reproductions of impressionist paintings, but those were just experimental pieces. I have experience in muralism and I've been privately commissioned a few times to build mosaics for people, and it was just recently that I decided to splice the two mediums together. All my previous mosaics have been slightly larger than a movie poster, and the piece I'm going to build once I acquire the funding will be my first photo mosaic mural, which I plan to make using tiles with the same dimensions. I've been wanting to make a large-scale mosaic since I was in high school, and I'm really excited to see what a giant piece will look like. I'm also looking into finding away to make them more durable and able to survive the elements so I can have outdoor piece that'll reach an even larger audience.
I attended the University of Montana from 2004 to 2008, and received my Bachelor's degrees in sociology with an emphasis in criminology, and fine arts with my focus being traditional darkroom photography. I unfortunately didn't complete my minor in anthropology. I have had works featured in art competitions and gallery exhibits since I was 16 when I won second place in a local art competition and had my work displayed in a professional art gallery. After college my pursuits of an art career sadly went dormant (with the exception of being hired to regularly create chalk murals for a branch of a nationwide company) due to being afraid of leaving the security of my job and being in a location where interest in the arts is very limited but at the same time not being in a very good financial position to be able to relocate to a more ideal area. After leaving that job I became a freelance writer for about two years, which left me with no spare time to give to the visual arts which I was desperately missing at that point. I decided to get back into visual art early spring 2017 and began working on this particular project last summer.
My fundraiser is at https://www.gofundme.com/mrnstudioslaunch and if you'd like to contribute to the project there are a few different methods. There's obviously making a donation of $5 or more at gofundme.com, or you can go to igive.com to do your online shopping where you received discounts from retailers who in turn donates part of the profit to me, or there's merchandise at https://www.zazzle.com/mrn_studios, and of course I greatly appreciate anyone who spreads the word about the campaign and helps raise donations. And if you're an active artist yourself and you want to help raise donations, please contact me at mrneumiller@outlook.com for my referral rewards program.
Thanks!
